Simple but Helpful Moving Tips

Sometimes, there may come a time in the life of a family when they have to move to a different address for various reasons: job relocation, new house purchase, moving closer to parents/relatives, etc. And with moving comes a set of challenges.

Choosing the Date

You might think this is not such a huge matter to consider, but it actually is. The aim is for everyone’s life not to be impacted too much by the relocation, so if the family members work or go to school, weekends would be an ideal time to move. This also makes everyone available to help. This way, you don’t have to hire more hands to help out, which means savings for you.

Check the weather forecast as well for the date you’re considering. Needless to say, the best time to move would be when the weather is great.

Packing Your Stuff

This can be one of the most challenging things in the whole moving process. In fact, the first thing you should decide on is which things are to be packed and which ones are not to be.

For your chinaware, glassware and other breakable items, be sure to pack them with paper (old newspapers or magazines) or styrofoam to prevent breakage.

Determine how many boxes you need for the transport. If you’re using old boxes, make sure you secure their bottom side firmly with packing tape to prevent your stuff from dropping.

It would also be smart to use the COMPONO Storage Boxes so you don’t have to unpack them anymore once you’ve moved. You can just put them in your closet or even store them openly in the room in an elegant design.

You can also get rid of the things you no longer need so you’ll have fewer things to pack. Have a garage sale or donate them to people or appropriate institutions.

Renting a Truck

When choosing a rental company for moving your stuff, check if the trucks they use have certain provisions for fragile equipment. This is to ensure that all your things, especially the fragile ones, arrive at your new home in excellent condition.

If you have the extra budget, you may also want to consider getting insurance. This is not a primary consideration, but it would be worth looking at.

Have an Inventory of Everything

Before packing, be sure to have a complete inventory of everything that’s going to be packed. It would also be good to make specific categories on your list for easier checking. Example categories are books, kitchenware, beddings, computer equipment, etc. Once the packages have arrived, be sure to check that everything on your list is there before it’s moved inside the new house.

Moving can be a physically, mentally and emotionally draining process. But if you have a good handle of what to do and how to do it, the process can become a lot easier and more manageable.
